The Covid pandemic has taken the whole nation by storm. At SGCC&RI, Thakurpukur we have also been hit by this dreadful disease. Last Thursday (16/4/20) an isolated case was detected with Covid 19 in this hospital. Although proper isolation was maintained and patient was immediately transferred to the nodal treatment centre but it left the entire neighbourhood including all patients’ relatives, sisters and staff in a panic state leading to gross disruption of hospital services. On the following days many employees were unable to reach the centre due to public outcry and forceful detention by their local community. Management has therefore taken rapid and effective steps to a partial close down of the hospital apart from looking after the children and some morbid adult patients who have nowhere else to go. We are expecting to open up in a week’s time if there are no more debacles thrust upon us and the situation trends towards normalcy. We request everyone involved to pray for us and support our noble mission in caring for the cancer victims.
