M‌y name is Debjani Chatterjee. Since July, I've been suffering from some sort of back ache. Initially I didn't give much attention to it as I was busy with my exams and study stuff. Gradually, the pain increased. But I kept delaying all this. Eventually, on 30th of November, 2020 my parents took me to Apollomedics Super Speciality Hospitals, and there Dr. Adittya K. Sharma, (Sr. Consultant, Urology) saw me. He asked me to undergo a few tests. And it happened so, something that I did not expect at all. I was diagnosed with a calculi stone (10.4mms) which was causing obstruction to the bladder, and few small stones in both the kidneys as well as Hydronephrosis, aka ureteral obstruction. In such a case there's swelling of a kidney due to a build-up of urine. It happens when urine cannot drain out from the kidney to the bladder from a blockage or obstruction. The reports showed clearly that it couldn't heal properly without surgery, something that has been advised by our Doctor. Well, Dr. Adittya Uncle told me that ureteral obstruction is curable through a small surgery which causes no cuts and sutures to the patient, known as Ureteroscopy and removal of stone. However, if it's not treated, symptoms can quickly move from mild to severe. Having said that, I'd also like to mention that in some cases it may give way to many other health problems, say loss of kidney function! To be honest, I was absolutely terrified! But I had faith in my Doctor. Better late than never. I had surgery for the first time in my life a week ago. P.S.: The last thing I remember was being wheeled to the OR on my stretcher.
