I was working as a registrar in the ICU of a hospital where sir was a visiting specialist. While reading out a patient's case paper, he asked me to elicit some reflexes on the patient. I couldn't do it very well. Dr. Deshpande sir showed me the proper way to do it. He, patiently, went through the basics and told me to practice it well. This took more than thirty minutes. I was just out of medical college and was awestruck by the way he made me understand it so well. I asked myself, what did he gain by spending time in explaining me the basics? He could have examined 3-4 patients in that duration. Do super specialists do that? Someone would have just ignored me or would have told me to read my books!!
