Longwood Pediatrics would like to update you on recent changes to federal billing guidelines.Effective January 1, 2021, the medical coding laws have changed.The new coding regulations outline a format for billing based on factors including medical decision making, complexity, and tests ordered.  For some medical problems, such as ear infections, you may find that this new coding system increases, decreases, or does not change at all the cost of the visit.  We do not choose how much to charge for each visit; we are required to follow the new billing guidelines. These changes to billing will also apply for any meical problems that are encountered and managed during the course of a well visit.  For example, if your child’s asthma is reviewed at their well visit, there may be an additional charge associated with that visit.  Depending on your insurance, there may also be a copayment related to the charges for the medical problem.  Well visits continue to have no associated copayment, but there may be a copayment added to your bill if medical problems are managed during the course of a well visit.

Dr. Porter is a Board-Certified pediatrician and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She received her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1990. Roslindale Pediatric Associates was founded in the 1950’s by John Bowers, MD who practiced on South Street in Roslindale for many years as a solo practitioner. In 1971, he was joined by Robert Stacks, MD and the practice has been growing ever since. When the new ambulatory office building was built in 1995, Roslindale Pediatrics moved into a new location at the Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital.  In 2016, we moved to our new location at 2020 Centre Street in West Roxbury. The medical staff presently includes 7 pediatricians and 3 pediatric nurse practitioners. All of our physicians are Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.  We can refer our patients to a large number of hospitals and offices in the greater Boston area.  If you or your child is seen at another facility, please request that notes and records from the specialist are sent to your PCP so we can ensure the best care for our patients.  Due to our affiliations with several of Boston’s medical schools and because we are committed to excellence in medical education, our medical staff is proud to share its knowledge and experience with doctors and nurse practitioners in training by teaching students throughout the year in our office setting. While we always give patients and their parents an opportunity to decline having students accompany the provider in the exam room, we do hope that most will be as enthusiastic as we are about this learning process.
